The Philippines is set to make history as the first EITI-implementing country in Asia to host the 10th Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Global Conference, slated for June 2026 in Manila. This milestone gathering will convene over a thousand global stakeholders – from governments and industries to civil society and development partners – to shape the future of transparency and accountability in the extractive sector.
“This is more than just a hosting role,” said Undersecretary Bayani H. Agabin, PH-EITI focal Person and Chair. “It’s a declaration of our shared vision of transparency, accountability, and collaboration in managing our country’s natural wealth.”
The Department of Finance, through PH-EITI, will lead the conference preparations, with support from its multi-stakeholder community, comprising civil society organizations, reporting companies, and development partners. “Together, we demonstrate how a whole-of-society approach can elevate the EITI Standard not only in the Philippines but across the Global South,” Usec. Agabin added during his presentation at the 63rd EITI Board Meeting.
The conference comes at a critical time, as countries grapple with the urgent demands of the energy transition, anti-corruption, and sustainable development. The Philippines aims to bring the lens of just transition and climate resilience to the global agenda, particularly important for an archipelagic nation vulnerable to climate risks.
“Through this event, we want to explore how extractive industries can support a low-carbon future, ensuring that no community is left behind,” Agabin emphasized. “We also hope to demonstrate how the 2023 EITI Standard can be used to combat corruption and drive informed, inclusive decision-making.”
Echoing this, Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto noted in the global announcement: “This reflects the Philippines’ firm resolve to lead by example in promoting transparency, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that our natural resources are managed sustainably.”
The Philippines has long demonstrated its capacity to host world-class events, having previously organized the APEC Economic Leaders’ Summit, ASEAN Summits, and Open Government Partnership regional meetings. The 2026 EITI Conference will also coincide with the country’s ASEAN Chairmanship, with infrastructure and coordination preparations already underway.
The Philippines is also expected to highlight its strong track record in hosting international events and its reputation for hospitality. According to Undersecretary Agabin, delegates can expect a well organized conference and a welcoming environment that reflects the country’s culture and professionalism.
As the host country, the Philippines will also help lead the formation of an EITI Board Working Group to ensure the event remains responsive to the real and pressing issues faced by resource-rich nations.
The PH-EITI secretariat has encouraged local stakeholders to contribute to the planning process, with the aim of reflecting national priorities and promoting the country’s role in advancing transparency in the extractive industries.
With the preparation underway, the 2026 EITI Global Conference is expected to position the Philippines as a leading voice in regional and global efforts toward transparent, accountable and sustainable resource governance.

A government-led, multi-stakeholder initiative implementing EITI, the global standard that promotes the open, accountable management, and good governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources. PH-EITI was created on 26 November 2013 through EO No. 147, s. of 2013. It is a government commitment first announced through EO No. 79, s. of 2012.
