The Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) commemorated its 100th Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) Meeting at the Department of Finance in Manila, celebrating a decade of dialogue and accountability among government, industry, and civil society.

The milestone event spotlighted ongoing reforms in the extractive sector, including updates on the FY 2023–2024 reporting cycle. PH-EITI emphasized the need to boost compliance among reporting entities, with only 53 projects currently in progress and 45 yet to begin submissions. PH-EITI urged closer coordination with oversight agencies to encourage timely and complete reporting, especially on beneficial ownership disclosures.

The meeting also reaffirmed PH-EITI’s commitment to subnationalization, localizing extractive transparency efforts by empowering mining-affected communities. Pilot initiatives in different areas in the country are underway, aiming to establish localized EITI bodies, tailor-made capacity building, and grassroots engagement on royalty sharing and environmental safeguards.

“The 100th meeting is both a milestone and a mandate,” said Undersecretary Bayani H. Agabin, PH-EITI Focal Person and MSG Chair. “We are proud of what we’ve built, but we are even more committed to bringing transparency closer to communities and pushing for stronger reforms across the sector.”
